Moscow, Russia – 11 June 2019 – The Central Scientific and Methodological Veterinary Laboratory under the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) developed a food safety management system for Trading Company Cherkizovo that meets the requirements of ISO 22000 and NEN NTA 8059, as well as the additional requirements under FSSC v. 4.1 (Food Safety System Certification). The system has been successfully implemented at Trading Company Cherkizovo, part of Cherkizovo Group.
Transportation and storage of food and food packaging is a key element in the food production chain. Many major food manufactures engage transport companies and distribution centers to ensure proper storage and transportation of their products, thus getting dependent on the quality of services these companies provide. Food safety requires a Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) system deployed at each stage of the value chain in addition to risk analysis to identify critical control points in order to manage and maintain the required storage and transportation standards.
The storage and transportation providers have to comply with relevant international requirements. Specifically, under NEN NTA 8059 certification requirements, companies are mandated to strictly monitor all operational processes. In conjunction with ISO 22000, they provide a robust mechanism to ensure the quality and safety of food as it is stored and transported to end customers. The implementation of these measures may pave the way for voluntary FSSC certification, recognized worldwide.
However, many transport and storage companies fail to meet even the minimum food safety requirements. In this context, the introduction of the food safety management system developed by Rosselkhoznadzor’s veterinary laboratory that meets all required standards is a landmark achievement for Trading Company Cherkizovo.
On top of that, the Central Scientific and Methodological Veterinary Laboratory and Cherkizovo successfully cooperate to conduct laboratory testing of products, provide advance verification of the Group’s sites for compliance with foreign country requirements, and in a number of other areas. This partnership contributes significantly to improving product quality and biosafety at the Company.
