Cherkizovo Group, Russia’s largest meat producer, hosted a corporate event to support the National Donor Day, with over 50 people rallying to the cause. The Company plans to actively expand its blood donation initiatives and host similar campaigns at least twice a year.
Russia celebrates the National Donor Day every year on April 20. This date was chosen for a reason. On April 20, 1832, the first successful blood transfusion in the history of Russian medicine was performed in St Petersburg. The blood was transfused to a patient from her husband, marking the start of blood donation in our country.
As part of its social policy, Cherkizovo Group has decided to establish a donation programme and engage employees from various regions to donate blood for patients in Russian hospitals. In April 2024, more than 50 company employees from Moscow, St Petersburg and Chelyabinsk participated in the first company-wide campaign dedicated to the Donor Day. Thanks to their help, 23 litres of blood were collected.
“Donating blood is a very important and at the same time easy-to-do form of charity for many people. It is an opportunity to do a good deed that can quite literally save someone’s life. At Cherkizovo Group, we place great value on such social initiatives and intend to host blood donation campaigns twice a year: on September 5 for the International Charity Day and on April 20 for the Donor Day. I am confident there will be more people wishing to join in this noble cause,” said Anastasia Mikhailova, Head of Communications at Cherkizovo Group.
All the participants in the charity blood donation campaign received souvenirs from the company and were granted additional days off.
