Cherkizovo Group publishes industrial meat supply indexes for January 2019. The indexes describe dynamics of meat supply – poultry, pork and beef – in Russia.
Industrial Meat Supply Index (IMS) moved down by 1% year on year (y-o-y) in January 2019 driven by: “high base effect” – high level of supply in January 2018; worsening financial situation for some companies; new outbursts of deceases accompanied by compulsory culling of stock; decrease of import (the latter mostly influenced pork supply).
The Index of poultry supply went down 3%, in our estimate, mostly due to decrease in turkey production in Rostov region. Broiler production also moved down but not as abruptly as turkey.
The Index of pork supply went up 3%, driven mostly by domestic production increase. The ban on import of Brazil red meat was cancelled on 01.11.2018 but import to Russia remains insignificant.
The Index of beef supply decreased by 1% due to decline of import.
