Over two years, the main buildings of a large-scale production facility were erected on the land plot distributed as part of an investment project in Pervomaysky District. The head of the region, Oleg Betin, and Igor Babaev, Chairman of Cherkizovo Group Board of Directors, expressed confidence that if construction continues at the same pace, Tambov residents will get to sample the first products as early as in 2015.
Cherkizovo Group, together with Spanish company Grupo Fuertes, is conducting full-fledged construction in Tambov Region of a number of large facilities, including an incubator with the capacity of approximately 113,000 eggs per week, a feed mill with production capacity of 150,000 tonnes of feed annually and storage capacity of 120,000 tonnes of grain, four rearing facilities with four buildings each, sanitary checkpoints, and modern warehousing facilities. The projected capacity for turkey meat production and processing is 40,000 tonnes of premium poultry meat annually. The facility personnel will be more than 700 persons. In the coming months, there are plans to build on the site a slaughtering plant with the capacity of 2,000 turkeys per hour, and plans to create a special area to store and use natural waste products in compliance with Russian environmental protection requirements.
“The project costs 7 billion roubles. Altogether, since the time when the idea was first formulated, the total amount of investment has exceeded 900 million roubles. Soon we are going to start installing equipment in a number of facilities,” Igor Babaev said. “This will be one of the best turkey breeding complexes. The project is being overseen by Grupo Fuertes, which is sharing its know-how in Russia for the first time. I am confident that we will successfully commission this facility next year.”
Meanwhile, the infrastructure includes entrance roads and communications supply, which will be built with 1.5 billion roubles allocated from the regional budget. “The project is expensive, but such investments are justified: the launch of production will give a powerful jolt to the development of the villages, provide jobs for the local population, and provide the food market with a high-quality product,” said Oleg Betin, Governor of Tambov Region. He noted that he does not doubt the successful launch of the Tambov Turkey project, given that the partnership with Cherkizovo Group has always been fruitful, as is evidenced by the Family Farms investment project done in Tambov Region — the dairy products from this project are in great demand among the local population.
