October 24, 2019

Moscow, Russia – October 24 – Cherkizovo Group, Russia’s largest meat producer, has become the general sponsor of Crystal, a men’s volleyball club from Voronezh tracing its roots back to 1984. On its 35th anniversary, it was renamed Crystal Cherkizovo.

“So far, it's been a great season for Crystal, and we are happy to support it as a sponsor. We believe that our strong aspiration to be a leader will inspire its players to gain even more spectacular victories,” commented Anastasia Mikhailova, Head of Government and Public Relations at Cherkizovo Group. The team has already changed its official name to Crystal Cherkizovo, with the Company’s logo now added to its kits.

In 1984, Crystal made its debut in the First League of the Soviet Championship, moving on to achieve its best result in the 2000–2001 season (third place in Major League A).

Crystal Cherkizovo was third in Russia’s Major League B after the first round held in Dagestan and Chechnya this October. The third round saw it beat Neftyanik UOR 3-2 and 3-0 on October 20 and 21, respectively. Both games took place in Orenburg. This week, Crystal Cherkizovo will play an away match against Perm’s Kama.

“We are very enthusiastic about taking our game to the next level. From day one, we’ve been focused on local talent, welcoming players from sports schools across Voronezh and the Voronezh Region,” said the club’s head coach Dmitry Mitrofanov, adding that only two of its 14-strong roster are from elsewhere.

“Being the largest meat producer in Russia, Cherkizovo Group is well known both in the Black Earth region and nationwide. We highly appreciate its contribution and are happy to be a part of its team,” noted Mitrofanov.
