March 27, 2019

Moscow, Russia – 27 March 2019 – Cherkizovo Group, Russia's largest meat producer, has been named a winner in the Digital Trailblazer category at the SAP Innovation Awards 2019. The Group was recognized for its fully automated smoked sausage plant in Kashira launched in summer 2018.

Cherkizovo’s fully automated facility operating on SAP S/4HANA was the only project from the CIS to receive the prestigious award. Along with other winners, it will be showcased at SAP's annual SAPPHIRE NOW conference held in May 2019 in Orlando, Florida. The event will bring together over 20,000 SAP customers and partners from across the world.

The SAP Innovation Awards 2019 recognized businesses in a variety of categories, including Digital Trailblazer, Industry Disruptor, Process Innovator, Social Hero, and Next-Gen Innovator. The Digital Trailblazer award was contested by companies claiming the best use of technology to drive business transformation. Digital Trailblazer contestants use SAP products and technologies to profoundly transform their business. Examples include enabling new business models, opening new markets, or radically changing how products or services are created and delivered. Among more than 12 Digital Trailblazer winners are major brands like Toyota, American Airlines, Munich Re and others.

Deployed in collaboration with Sabris, the software platform at the Kashira plant includes SAP ERP based on SAP S/4HANA, MES-level systems using the SAP NetWeaver industry solution, and SCADA systems, which serve as the interface between MES and the equipment.

The plant is the industry's first to conform to Industry 4.0 requirements, boasting fully automated processes and minimum human involvement. Facilities of similar capacity usually employ about 700 people, while the staff at the Kashira plant includes approximately 200 employees. The Group plans to leverage the model successfully tested in Kashira to deploy fully automated IT managed systems at other production sites.

Vladislav Belyaev, Head of IT at Cherkizovo Group: “This project is yet another proof that Russia’s agricultural industry uses world-class innovative solutions to deliver outstanding results and superior products.”

Sergey Ryzhov, Head of Business Development at Cherkizovo Group: “We have combined traditional technologies and automation, IoT and AI to use resources rationally, achieve the highest quality standards, and ensure full transparency of the production chain.
